I lived in Apt 1C, and My parents were building attendants throughout the 1960's. At that time we had an incinerator and the building was heated by coal. In the basement where the coals were dropped off, was cells I think there was five or six that I can remember. Can you tell me what the building and cells were used for in the past?
What structure was at this location (at the corner of Houston St.) before the bank building went up? My great-grandfather ran a photo studio at 183 Essex in the late 1800s
This is not correct. My family lived here prior to 1902 through the 1960’s. This building was built prior to 1900.

Do you know when it was built? I don't understand why you say it not correct, there's no building year written for this place.
I have a photo of my great great grandfather taken at Moerz studio. Might that be your great grandfather
1 Allen st in the 1950’s & early 1960’s was Atlantic Clothing Store when I was young my Mother toke me to buy my suits and dress clothes after we would go Katz’s Delicatessen for lunch. Great memories
If the photographer is H. Merz (or Henry) and the studio is 183 Essex Street, then the photographer was my gg-grandfather. If you feel like making a digital copy of the photo, I would love a copy. I have about 30 portraits, but none of them is identified by the name of the subject. Let me know. Thanks! John Ward ... 2catsdriving [at] gmail.
There used to be a store called Leslie Mark NY that said it was located at 162-163 Canal Street in NYC in 1912. I am trying to find any photos or information about it as I had a cabinet that was made from the store and need to have it reproduced to fit a smaller scaled place. But I cannot find any information on the store, building or anything other than the name and address that is etched on the back of the cabinet. Any help would be appreciated. thank you.
Are there pictures? of this location 153 Houston St back ending 1970s.
I have a picture of my great grandfather that was taken there if you would like it.
