"McDougall died in 1892, leaving the land to his son and four daughters. It ap- pears there must have been quite some de- bate over the eventual disposition of the land; a new cadastral map was drawn up in 1901 and the land finally was sold off in 1909, cutting across lots designed for houses fronting on Claremont, so that the houses could be built facing onto Chester- field Ave. The land to the north at the cor- ner of Windsor Ave. had been sold to the Hervey Institute in 1905. It set about building a large “children’s home,” which covered the entire cul-de-sac. It was only afterwards that the land to the south, lead- ing down to Chesterfield Ave., was sold off for development. " From WESTMOUNT INDEPENDENT – September 25, 2018 – page 11
